Deputy City Manager & General Manager of Utilities

Jeff Thompson began with the City of Boerne in 2007 as the Assistant City Manager and in March of 2013 became Deputy City Manager and Director of Economic Development.  In that position he oversaw Public Works, Planning and Community Development, Finance, Parks & Recreation and the City’s Economic Development efforts.  

In June of 2018, he was named Deputy City Manager and General Manager of Utilities providing Executive Management oversight to Parks & Recreation, Streets, Facilities, Cemetery, Finance, Customer Service & Billing, Regulatory Compliance, Electric, Water, Sewer, Gas and Reclaimed Water Utilities.  Beginning in January 2020, he will also oversee the City’s new Stormwater Utility.  He works closely with the Mayor, City Manager, City Council, City Attorney and the general public.  

Prior to joining the City of Boerne, Mr. Thompson spent 23 years at New Braunfels Utilities serving in a variety of capacities and then with The SCOOTER Store for four years as Vice President of Operations and then Vice President of Finance.

He has a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree as well as a Master of Public Administration from Texas State University.  Additionally, he is a member of the Texas City Management Association, the Texas Public Power Association, and Texas Gas Association.  He also serves as the staff liaison to the Transportation Policy Board of the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization and is on the Board of the San Antonio Mobility Coalition.
