Weekly Story Times
The Youth Department offers two days of weekly story times! Children ages 0-2 can join us for WeePlay on Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m., and the older preschoolers have a story time at 10:30 a.m. on most Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please check the Library Calendar or call 830 249-3053 on holiday weeks.
Paws 4 Reading Program
On a roving Saturday each month, little ones are invited to read to dogs in our PAWS for Reading program. Paws 4 Reading is a therapy dog reading program, designed to nurture beginning and struggling readers. Studies show that readers who are involved in therapy dog reading programs experience increased literacy, fluency and confidence in reading out loud, and also develop compassion, social skills, and confidence in dealing with other life challenges.
You are probably wondering what kinds of dogs participate. Only Certified Therapy Dogs may participate as volunteers in the program. Therapy dogs undergo extensive evaluation and special training. They come into the library well groomed and wearing visible certification identification. A therapy dog "team" (dog and its owner) will meet individually with a child for 20 minutes.
To learn more about this wonderful program, call Miss Constance at 830-249-3053.
No registration is required for any of the above programs; however, we do occasionally offer special programming that does require sign-up.
Check out the library's calendar for after school activities and other upcoming programs.
