Riverside Market/Shell station located at 491 South Main was approved by the Historic Landmark Commission for demolition. They have proceeded with removal of the underground tanks, but because of its location in the historic district, demolition of the building comes under the purview of the Historic Landmark Commission. The existing building was constructed in 1965. Though more than half a century old, and eligible for historic review, it was concluded in the 2009 historic district survey that the building was found to be a non–contributing structure. There are no plans at this time to construct a new building on the site and there has been no request made for a new use. The lot will remain vacant, but in the future any new development on the lot would be required to go to the Historic Landmark Commission for review.
